RadioXYZonline.com can confirm that Former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu
Mahama, has joined his ancestors after battling with what is believed
to be a heart condition at the Cardio Centre at the Korle-bu Teaching
hospital on Wednesday.
The former Vice President was at the hospital for about ten days where
he was being treated for what is believed to be a heart related
ailment. He was 66 years old.
This comes barely after four months following the demise of President
John Evans Atta Mills on July 24. Alhaji Aliu Mahama was the Vice
President for eight years under the erstwhile Kufuor administration.
There were reports earlier on Wednesday that Alhaji Mahama had given
up the ghost but his aides denied the rumour saying he is recuperating
after being treated by the hospital.
XYZ News' reporter who is at the Cardio Centre says family members who
are at the hospital do not look the least happy about the situation.
The doctors are however quiet about the condition of the former vice
president.
President Mahama last week charged the doctors to provide Alhaji
Mahama with all the needed medical care he requires.
Alhaji Aliu Mahama (born 3 March 1946) was Vice-President of Ghana
from 7 January 2001 to 7 January 2009.
He sought the New Patriotic Party's nomination for the 2008
presidential election, but at the party's convention in December 2007
he received only 6.38% of delegates' votes (146 votes). After this
unexpectedly poor result he announced that he would leave politics.
