The 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards comes off today,
April 11, at the Accra International Conference Centre. There will be surprises and there will be “shocks” as to who wins what and who walks home with nothing -- but all in all, we’re expecting a good show. Last year, self-acclaimed dancehall King Shatta Wale emerged Artiste of the year – this year, the category is highly contested by the likes of Sarkodie, Mzvee, Stonebwoy, Samini and others. Over the years we have seen the likes of Obour taking home the artiste of the year award in 2005, Ofori Amponsah won in 2006, Samini then Batman won in 2007, the man insane Kwaw Kese won the enviable award in 2008, Okyeame Kwame won it in 2009, in 2010 Sarkodie won this prestigious award after grabbing other numerous awards on that same night. In 2011, VIP became the first group to win the award, and then in 2012 Sarkodie reclaimed his reign until 2013 when R2bees kicked him of the throne. The current reigning artist of the year Shatta Wale will tonight hand over his crown to the most deserving artiste(s). According to our sources, Shatta Wale who dropped out from this year's VGMA's is organizing a beach party today and his "partner in crime" Sarkodie is said to be passing through. Is this a plot to counter the success of the VGMA's?
